Pine Lake Preparatory is currently seeking a Director of Finance. Pine Lake Prep is a growing K-12 public charter school serving approximately 1,900 students with an annual operating budget of approximately $20 million.

The Director of Finance serves as the school’s senior financial leader and is responsible for overseeing financial operations, strategic financial planning, budgeting, compliance, audit preparation, nonprofit tax reporting, grant financial management, and long-term financial sustainability initiatives. This position partners closely with the Executive Director, school leadership team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors to support operational excellence, capital planning, and responsible stewardship of school resources.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, analytical, and solutions-oriented leader who is comfortable balancing both high-level financial strategy and day-to-day operational oversight in a fast-paced and mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to (see attached Job Description for full detail):

  • Lead development, monitoring, forecasting, and long-range financial planning for the school’s approximately $20 million operating budget
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports and analyses to the Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and school administration
  • Provide advanced financial modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and data analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Oversee accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, journal entries, general ledger activity, and bank reconciliations
  • Supervise finance department staff and daily financial operations
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Prepare financial statements, annual audit documentation, nonprofit tax filings, and required federal, state, and local reporting
  • Monitor and oversee grant funding, budgeting, compliance requirements, reimbursement processes, and allowable cost reporting
  • Analyze vendor contracts, operational expenditures, and financial commitments to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational priorities
  • Lead financial oversight related to capital projects, facilities planning, debt obligations, debt covenant compliance, and long-term affordability analysis
  • Partner with Human Resources regarding employee benefits, compensation, workers’ compensation, and related financial matters
  • Support cash management, reserve planning, and investment oversight in collaboration with school leadership and the Finance Committee
  • Utilize advanced spreadsheet, financial reporting, and data management skills to analyze trends, support forecasting, and improve operational decision-making
  • Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders


The candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, leadership, and communication skills, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of professionalism and accuracy.

Desirable applicants will hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Prior experience overseeing financial operations of similar size and complexity is preferred. Experience overseeing complex financial operations within nonprofit, governmental, educational, or similarly regulated environments is strongly preferred. Experience with grant management, audit preparation, nonprofit financial reporting, and long-range financial planning is highly desirable. A CPA license or Master’s degree is preferred.
