Job Summary
The Social Studies Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in history,
civics, and global perspectives. The teacher must demonstrate expertise across multiple levels of
high school social studies curriculum and be able to engage students with varying aptitudes.
Instruction in social studies includes critical thinking, analysis of primary and secondary sources,
content vocabulary, hands-on projects, and knowledge of the school’s three teaching ideologies.
Job Description
● Subject matter expertise to teach a range of Social Studies topics effectively; responsible for
creating standards-based lesson plans for all courses
● Incorporate innovation and the fine arts into academic lessons to enhance student
engagement
● High level of confidence using technology in the classroom; Longleaf is a 1:1 school
● Work collaboratively with department members as well as across disciplines
● Engage with staff, students, and supervisors respectfully and professionally as a team member
● Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt to the needs of students with varying
intellectual abilities, including accommodations for students with 504/IEPs
● Follow all school policies and applicable laws, including FERPA, Exceptional Children
requirements, and Section 504
● Prepare lesson plans in the assigned content area to teach required learning objectives
through creative and engaging instruction
● Assign and grade projects, assignments, and assessments, reporting grades weekly
● Assess student skills and knowledge regularly, following school requirements for varied
assessments each quarter

Social Studies Teacher
Full-Time
● Create and enforce classroom rules, policies, and procedures; utilize Ehall Pass for
accountability
● Supervise students in the classroom and during non-instructional times such as lunch; report
concerns to administration and parents as appropriate
● Provide a minimum of 3 hours of tutoring weekly for remediation and acceleration
● Collaborate with other high school teachers to develop curriculum and improve the learning
process
● Attend weekly PLT meetings, monthly faculty meetings, monthly committee meetings, and
three school-required events annually
● Communicate with students and parents about progress and document those interactions in a
communication log
● Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for professional collaboration with
students, families, faculty, and administrators
● Receive direction and feedback in a professional manner
● Utilize knowledge of behavior management strategies to keep students engaged and learning
● Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills
● Exhibit resourcefulness in teaching effectively given available resources and student readiness
levels
Minimum Requirements:
● Bachelor's or Master's degree
● NC Teacher License in Secondary Social Studies is required
