Position Summary


Clover Garden School is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to fulfill the dual role of Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver. This position involves supporting classroom instruction and ensuring the safe transportation of students. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to student success and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Assistance:

  • Collaborate with lead teachers to develop and implement lesson plans. 
  • Provide individualized support to students, including those with disabilities, to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Assist with classroom management, organization, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Support the preparation and distribution of instructional materials.
  •  
  • Student Supervision:
  • Monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining discipline in accordance with school policies. 
  • Supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as lunch, recess, and field trips.

 

Transportation:

  • Safely operate a school bus to transport students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure safety and report any maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and school transportation policies.
  • Maintain order and discipline among students during transport, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school events as required.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred. 
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred. 

 

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Clean driving record with no serious traffic violations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage student behavior effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing situations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
  • Capability to assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, including those with mobility challenges. 
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to monitor student activity and ensure safety.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with split shifts to accommodate morning and afternoon bus routes, along with daytime classroom assistance.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events or field trips.
