INSTRUCTIONAL COACH (TEACHER) DESCRIPTION

Position: Instructional Coach (Teacher)

Reports To: Principal

Salary:  State Salary Schedule plus local supplement

Benefits: Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) and NC State Health Plan

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Week Schedule: Monday – Friday

Work Hours:  7:45AM – 4:00PM; occasional evenings and weekends

Employment Term: 10 months

Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies is a public regional STEM school located in a newly renovated, 62,000 sq ft facility in the heart of Elizabeth City, less than an hour drive from the beautiful Outer Banks and the metropolitan Tidewater Virginia area. Our coaches facilitate learning through hands-on, project and problem based instruction thoughtfully designed to challenge students. Position Purpose

Coaches (teachers) at NEAAAT demonstrate a commitment to ensure that every student graduates from high school ready for college, careers, and life. Through rigorous teaching and learning based on a common instructional framework, Coaching and Learning the NEAAAT Way, and a set of common core values that include teamwork, inclusiveness, challenge, professionalism, innovation, and service, educators at NEAAAT partner with students to foster a culture of collaborative learning. Instructional coaches strive to provide students with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) knowledge, skills, and dispositions that will enable them to participate fully in a technologically-rich, contemporary society. Our team is positive, enthusiastic, and proactive, with a demonstrated passion for working with middle and high school age students.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous engaging lessons in ways that build upon individual strengths and offer students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning and direction of their own learning experience 
  • Engage all students in learning using contextual project based instructional format
  • Lead students to develop soft skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Utilize technology to facilitate instruction and maximize student learning
  • Employ a variety of assessment tools and strategies to measure student progress toward learning, college and career goals
  • Promote high expectationand the skills needed for success beyond high school
  • Communicatnecessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Develop and provide training and educational programs that address the goals and mission of the educational institution
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning activities 
  • Contributes as a member of a high performing team
  • Performs other duties as assigned and as necessary to fulfill the day-to-day needs of the school

Education, Training, Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master’s degree or higher preferred

Certification and License Requirements

  • NC Professional Educator’s License preferred, but not required; Must be eligible to obtain license within 3 years
