Middle School

The 7th grade Science teacher, in collaboration with the grade level team and the Math & Science Instructional Coach, will create a challenging, hands-on, inquiry based instructional environment.  Endeavor’s candidate will provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities that foster critical thinking, literacy and investigative skills.  We are looking for educators who are passionate about middle school science and who are able to inspire that passion in students. If you enjoy nothing more than messy, noisy, high-level science labs with curious and confident 7th graders, this is the job for you!

Curriculum Planning and Implementation

  • Follow the NC Standard Course of Study 7th Grade Science
  • Teach four 65 minute blocks of 7th grade science utilizing differentiated, hands-on activities, labs, inquiry, and literacy strategies to foster deeper thinking
  • Create a literacy-rich environment through the use of informal and formal labs, lab write ups, science sources, charts and graphs to promote critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Teach students with an investigative approach that helps students view science using a variety models, simulations, and projects that help them view science from multiple perspectives
  • Establish a safe classroom that promotes inquiry and discourse 
  • Develop effective lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Lead morning office hours 

Classroom Management

  • Establish classroom processes and procedures which teach independence, responsibility, and respect and maintaining a classroom environment which promotes these traits on a daily basis
  • Foster an environment for all students to communicate and collaborate with one another
  • Nurture a familial environment which aligns with Endeavor’s mission and values

Student Assessment

  • Use both formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate students’ academic growth, including North Carolina’s EOG’s
  • Student assessments should include the use of labs, simulations, science sources, formal writing, and the analysis of charts, graphs,

Differentiated Instruction

  • Utilize data driven instruction to differentiate learning for all learners
  • Create lesson plans and materials
  • Embed a wealth of resources to make learning relevant and meaningful

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Communicate frequently and effectively with parents 
  • Guide weekly morning meeting group focused on character and citizenship

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Instructional Coach and Middle School Director
  • Collaborate with Exceptional Children’s Case Manager and Interventionists as needed to adapt instruction and meet student needs
  • Collaborate with the grade level and subject area teams to vertically align instruction and skills
  • Stay abreast of new trends and strategies emerging in the field

Basic Qualifications Required

  • Currently NC certified
  • Experience in middle school science
  • Experience with literacy and/or technology is preferred
  • 3 professional references that can speak to your success as an educator

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of science
  • Knowledge of a variety of assessment strategies 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
