EAST VOYAGER ACADEMY OF CHARLOTTE IS A FREE PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL LOCATED IN
CHARLOTTE, N.C. EAST VOYAGER ACADEMY IS THE FIRST SCHOOL-WIDE DUAL LANGUAGE
IMMERSION CHINESE PUBLIC SCHOOL IN NORTH CAROLINA. THE SCHOOL OPENED IN 2018
AND SERVES APPROXIMATELY 200 STUDENTS IN GRADES K TO 8. APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE
STAFF ARE NATIVE CHINESE SPEAKERS. EAST VOYAGER ACADEMY SUPPORTS PARENT-CHOICE
FOR MORE PERSONALIZED EDUCATION FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THE MISSION OF EAST VOYAGER
ACADEMY IS TO GRADUATE ITS STUDENTS WITH ENGLISH-CHINESE BILINGUAL PROFICIENCY,
STRONG ACADEMICS, AND INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS
CURRENTLY SEEKING AN INDIVIDUAL WITH A PROVEN RECORD OF LEADING EDUCATORS AND
STUDENTS TOWARD ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AS OUR NEXT PRINCIPAL. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
WILL BE AN EFFECTIVE LEADER, PRIORITIZE STAFF/TEACHER DEVELOPMENT, AND WORK IN
COOPERATION WITH BOARD MEMBERS, PARENTS AND TEACHERS TO BEST SERVE THE
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS. OUR PRINCIPAL WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
IMPLEMENTING THE ACADEMIC GOALS OF OUR CHARTER AND ENSURING THAT ALL TEACHERS
AND SUPPORT STAFF HAVE THE RESOURCES AND GUIDANCE THEY NEED TO FULFILL THE VISION
FOR THE SCHOOL. THE VISION FOR THE SCHOOL IS TO SERVE AS A NATIONAL LEADER IN
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND LANGUAGE IMMERSION EDUCATION, CULTIVATE GLOBAL
UNDERSTANDING, AND FOSTER LIFE-LONG LEARNING SKILLS TO PREPARE STUDENTS TO
BECOME PRODUCTIVE, COMPETENT, AND ENGAGED CITIZENS OF THE 21ST CENTURY.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Ensure compliance with all school, state and federal guidelines and policies.
● Carry out the mission of East Voyager Academy and assure that all charter goals and objectives are
appropriately measured and assessed.
● Directs an institutional focus on student achievement by creating a learning environment that
fosters:
o Academic excellence
o Student motivation
o Professional teamwork
o Community involvement
o Respect for all
● Ensure opportunities exist to prepare students for English-Chinese bilingual proficiency, strong
academics, and cultural proficiency.
● Develops, refines, and provides input into the implementation of the school's academic program.
● Effectively works with professional services and the Board’s finance committee to develop and
manage the budget.
● Advocates school improvement/reform and encourages staff to be innovative in the delivery of
education; leads productive faculty meetings to ensure that lines of communication are open.
● Evaluates instruction and makes objective decisions regarding the retention or dismissal of
personnel.
● Effectively manages an efficient office and record keeping system.
● Ensure that all grant requirements of the school are met.
● Effectively manages and maintains a safe, clean, and well-run facility.
● Demonstrates care and concern for the well-being of all students and staff.
● Develops and implements a fair and consistent system for student discipline.
● Effectively develops and administers objective evaluation of teacher performance where
professional development is linked to measurable results.
● Collaborates closely with other team members to plan and prepare for academic, social, and fiscal
needs.
● Works with the Board of Trustees and the community to create a sustainable charter school that
utilizes all available resources while encouraging staff to do the same.
● Maintains professional knowledge through attendance at selected conferences, readings of
professional journals, or membership in professional organizations.
● Ensures the day-to-day procedures are in place for efficient and effective school operations.
● Assists the Board of Trustees in the development or revision of needed policies and upholds the policies
approved by the Board.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
● A Master’s degree or higher in educational leadership or related area.
● At least 5 years of K-8 teaching and/or administrative experience.
● Eligibility for professional licensure for NC Educational Administration and Supervision.
● Experience leading a dual language immersion school, or program or comparable training and
experience, in Chinese or Spanish language strongly preferred.
● Agreement with and commitment to the academic goals and unique instruction model of East
Voyager Academy.
● Commitment to accountability.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills.
