The Fourth Grade English Language Arts Teacher, in collaboration with the grade level team at ECS,  plays a crucial role in shaping the educational foundation and overall development of ECS’ elementary students.  The teacher’s responsibilities extend beyond teaching as they are entrusted with fostering a nurturing, familial, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.  Within that setting the teacher will provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities which will support students while helping them reach their highest potential.  

Curriculum Planning and Implementation:  Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with ECS’ curriculum as well as state and national educational standards.  Utilize various teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.  Integrate technology and interactive resources to enhance the learning experience.

Classroom Management:  Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.  Set clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and consistently enforce classroom rules and procedures.  Address disciplinary issues promptly and constructively, using positive reinforcement and conflict resolution strategies.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:  Regularly assess student learning through formal and informal methods.  Analyze assessment data to identify individual student strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.  Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, administrators and parents/guardians on academic progress and goals.

Differentiated Instruction:  Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special needs, English language learners, and advanced learners.  Modify lesson plans and assignments as necessary to accommodate individual learning styles and interests, and abilities.  Collaborate with special education teachers, support staff, Instructional Coaches, and other professionals to develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and accommodations as appropriate.

Parent and Community Engagement:  Establish open and effective communication channels with parents/guardians to keep them informed about their child’s academic progress, behavior, and school activities.  Encourage parental involvement through parent-teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities, and family engagement events.  Collaborate with community organizations, local businesses, and other stakeholders to enrich the educational experience and support student success.

Professional Development and Collaboration:  Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, stay abreast of best practices, and incorporate new research-based strategies into instruction.  Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to share ideas, resources, and strategies for improving student learning outcomes.  Engage in reflective practice to evaluate and continuously improve teaching effectiveness and student engagement.

Basic Qualifications:

Valid teaching credentials or degree in subject area requirred

Experience teaching upper elementary school ELA preferred

History of achieving growth with students at and above grade level proficiency

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong knowledge of the ELA curriculum

Knowledge of assessment strategies

Strong knowledge of research/evidence based instructional practices and programs

Strong oral and written communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills

High personal standards of professionalism and integrity
