The Exceptional Children (EC) Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the EC Program for Willow Oak Montessori, which includes both a K-8 Public Charter School and a private preschool program. The EC Coordinator is responsible for ensuring students receive the special education services they require for academic, behavior, social and emotional growth in accordance with federal and state laws, guidelines, rules, and regulations, and in keeping with the school’s culture, mission, vision, and values. They will work in partnership with the leadership team, faculty members, and families to understand and meet the needs of students with disabilities and those requiring specialized instruction.

Contract Type: Full-Time; 40 hours per week
Contract Term: 11 Months (August - June); renewable
Reports To: Head of School


Requirements:
● Master’s Degree in special education, psychology, or a related field from an accredited
college or university
● 3-5 years of experience working with children with disabilities as a special education
teacher, psychologist or in an administrative capacity
● Holds a valid license as an EC teacher, school psychologist or school administrator


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
● Understanding of and alignment with Willow Oak Montessori’s educational philosophy,
policies, and procedures
● Comfort with office productivity applications, including Google Docs, Word

Responsibilities:
● Understand and articulate detailed knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations
regarding the provision of services to students with disabilities.
● Receive written referrals for special education services and guide the EC team through
this process to ensure compliance.
● Demonstrate knowledge of EC record-keeping and reporting requirements.
● Develop procedures to monitor complete and accurate records for the EC program in
accordance with federal and state statutes and regulations.
● Understand various funding sources for EC services and related budgetary restrictions.

● Lead IEP team meetings as the Local Education Agency representative to help make
decisions regarding the educational placement of the student in the least restrictive
environment.
● Receive and review psychological reports, medical reports, and educational assessments
to help determine eligibility for EC services as a member of the IEP team.
● Assist with the collection and analysis of data required for planning and reporting
purposes.
● Assist with the preparation and submission of required local, state, and federal reports.
● Assist with the preparation of state and federal grant applications, as necessary, to meet
program needs.
● Consult with Willow Oak Montessori leadership team when developing budgets and
plans related to the use of local, state, and federal funds to serve students with disabilities.
● Attend state level EC Director meetings to stay up to date on current policies, procedures
and best practices to ensure overall program compliance and accountability.
● Collaborate with the testing coordinator to ensure all testing accommodations are
provided as directed on the IEP.

● Abide by the American Montessori Society Code of Ethics and the Code of Ethics for
North Carolina Educators.
● Engage in a continuing education program of study.
