English Teacher Job Description:

Longleaf School of the Arts is a North Carolina public charter high school. We are a
college preparatory school focusing on the fine arts. Our mission:

community through mentorship and a challenging curriculum that
integrates academics and the fine arts.

Job Summary:
The English Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in
reading and writing across various genres. He or she will also possess the ability to
work with multiple levels of aptitude in each classroom, demonstrating a high proficiency
for developing critical thinking skills within these various levels of the high school
English curriculum. Instruction in reading and writing includes close textual reading,

timed and processed writing, research, notetaking, content vocabulary, grammar, real-
world application, and knowledge of the school’s three teaching ideologies.

Job Description:
● Create standards based lesson plans for all classes, while being innovative in
these lessons
● Incorporate arts into academic lessons
● Understand how to use technology in the classroom; Longleaf is a 1:1 school
● Work collaboratively with members within the department, as well as across
curriculums
● Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the
needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, accommodating a variety of
instructional activities
● Utilize knowledge of classroom management strategies
Minimum Requirements:
● Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
● NC Teacher License in Secondary English is required
